Our Program
Our Mission
Since 1961, Wellesley Youth Hockey has supported the growth and development of the sport hockey. Wellesley Youth Hockey offers competitive travel hockey for girls and boys with the express purpose of promoting sportsmanlike competition, team and individual values, and respect for the rules of play in the great game of ice hockey.
Core to the program experience is the development of individual and team skills while embracing sportsmanlike competition and respect for the rules of the game. WYHA is a Member of USA Hockey and Massachusetts Hockey.
Our Teams
Girls Travel Hockey: 10U/12U/14U/19U teams compete in the Middlesex Yankee Girls Conference.
Travel Hockey (co-ed): All 10U/Squirt, 12U/Pee Wee, 14U/Bantam, and Midget (fall & winter) teams will participate in the Valley League, AAA/AA/A divisions. This is a wonderful league with excellent competition in the MetroWest areas.
Rookie Mites: Teams will participate in the Town Line League. This is a fantastic cross-ice program at Bajko Ice Rink in Hyde Park and a USA Hockey-sanctioned program. Cross-ice hockey is key to player development. USA Hockey supports cross-ice youth hockey for numerous reasons, including more touches to the puck, quick transition, improved balance and agility, and more.
Learn to Play: Players who are new to hockey participate in a weekly coaches-led practice run by Wellesley Youth Hockey, bi-weekly skills sessions with Driscoll Skills, and Saturday morning cross-ice scrimmages. All sessions are located at Boston Sports Institute, 900 Worcester St.
Our Program
The Wellesley Youth Hockey Association (WYHA) is a not-for-profit corporation that was founded in 1961. The WYHA Board of Directors, Coaches, Assistant Coaches, and Managers follow sound principles while running a non-profit, volunteer-based youth hockey program for all girls and boys to have a fun, positive youth hockey experience.
In accordance with USA and Massachusetts Hockey Guidelines, WYHA strives to provide a safe and healthy environment for all to learn and to grow as individuals and teammates in the game of hockey with an equal opportunity to play at an appropriate level and without an undue emphasis on winning. WYHA endorses the Core Values of USA Hockey: Sportsmanship, Respect for the Individual, Integrity, Pursuit of Excellence, Enjoyment, Loyalty, and Teamwork.
WYHA is officially a part of Massachusetts Hockey’s District III (Norfolk County), and the WYHA is a USA Hockey participating program. USA Hockey is federally legislated to govern the sport of ice hockey in the United States. WYHA adheres to the rules set forth by these governing regional and national organizations.
WYHA is an independent organization and is funded solely by the membership fees of its participants, by revenues from fundraising, and by the generous support of our corporate sponsors. WYHA receives no funding or administrative support from the Town of Wellesley, and no town facilities are used for games or practices. The nine members of the Board of Directors meet monthly and oversee WYHA, its Officers, and its four committees: the Nominating Committee, the Discipline Committee, the Advisory Committee, and the Special Events Committee.
